NAME: Genesis Rhapsodos
AGE: 30
CANON: Final Fantasy VII
CANON HISTORY: Here
CANON PERSONALITY: Genesis is a passionate and fiery individual. His emotions run deep and they are not tempered. Sometimes. He loves to have a flare, to be dramatic and to be heard. In this vein, he’s also quite vain and ensures he also looks good when going out. He loves looking good. He keeps a calm façade most of the time but should he become angry, there is a fire in him that would not be quelled until he calmed himself down. Part of that anger is that he is prone to jealousy, whether it be from a friend or someone who was better than him (proven or not).
Genesis is also a master with words and very charismatic. Should he want to, he can and will manipulate those around him. However, he's hardly ever found a reason to do this since he likes to be above such trickery (though it doesn't hurt every now and then to have a little fun~). Of course, within the game Genesis had fallen down to using such tactics due to his degradation of both mind and body. But since he was healed by the Goddess and given a second chance, he has since fallen back on way before everything had gone downhill. However, that doesn't mean he won't use such tactics when the need calls for it. His enhanced body also gives him quite the daring attitude. He was risky as a normal human but now nearly indestructible? Why, the possibilities were endless for him. Given his wealthy family, he has spent time learning about everything around him and, more importantly, who. He is quite the social butterfly and will use this knowledge to him advantage should he need it.
Despite all this mingling that he actually doesn't favor doing, he never opens himself up unless one is a close friend of his. He doesn't like being in the dark, but he doesn't like making himself vulnerable if he can help it, hence the need to be charismatic without pushing too hard. Genesis can be enigma to those around him and due to being a SOLDIER, there was a respect that he automatically had, he also doesn't mind flaunting this and because certain other people don't dare question him, it's easy to see how he can become "close" the other people but never let them become close to him.
There is also an idiosyncrasy to Genesis that is quite simply unique him in that when he sets his mind to something, he can and will become obsessed. However, considering we have only seen this with his obsession with the play LOVELESS, it remains to be seen exactly how obsessed he becomes with other things. Not only that but when his mind had degraded, LOVELESS was the only thing he really latched onto. He was known for quoting it a lot but it wasn't until his desperation and his insanity reached their peak that he really started reciting it on a near constant basis. Luckily, now that his sanity and life has been restored, he won't be quoting it nearly that often.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: As with any First Class SOLDIER, Genesis is very proficient with a sword. To be specific, his weapon of choice is a long crimson-bladed sword called Rapier with a decorative filigree handle. And just like any SOLDIER in general, he has been enhanced with Mako. His strength, endurance, durability, agility, etc. are greatly enhanced due to the Mako. However, it’s his skill with the blade that is most notable. It is seen throughout the game Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core that he can and does channel his magic through his sword. Whenever he activated the Fire Materia within, runes appear along the length of the blade and glow, giving it a fiery glow and strengthening it in response. His skills themselves are a match to even Sephiroth, though it remains to be seen that he has yet to actually beat the man (This is from the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania).
He is also noted for being skilled the art of magic when it comes to Materia as it has yet to be seen that other SOLDIERs actually even use Materia all that often. Like most SOLDIERs in ShinRa, he does have access to materia fusion, although we only see Genesis use Fire and summoning Bahamut Fury. But extension, from his boss battles in the game a select cutscene, it is seen that he can use Homing, Dark Energy, and Flash but, as noted, it's really unknown whether these are from materia or his Project G abilities.
As part of these Project G abilities, he's suggested to have some sort of telekinetic ability as he somehow flies straight with one wing and uses the feathers as projectiles (but it appears limited to simply this and no more).
He also has his own limit break called Apocalypse, that is used in the final battle with Zack Fair. Much like when Zack uses Genesis' ability via the DMW, a gold crest appears to emit a massive wave of energy. Although Genesis' version appears above the opponent, rather than below. The final act of LOVELESS (the one Genesis interpreted) also appears within the crest itself with the final line being where the opponent stands.

His eyes are gray and his red hair is a little bit wilder that he tames with a small amount of product. A ton of freckles, over the bridge of his nose and cheeks, and along his upper body and then speckled here and there.
AU HISTORY:
-Born in Banora Point, NSW, Australia
-Father is Irish, Mother is Japanese. Both are from wealthy families and no, he's not adopted this time around.
-When he was about 4 he had come down with a severe case of pneumonia that left him with a weak constitution and asthma.
-He spent a few years in the Japanese countryside to see if being in a more rural area would help (and his mother thought Japan would be best and it allowed them to use a family estate).
-Genesis did get better but as he still got sick quite easily and also was getting bullied by other children, they were referred to a pediatric doctor who specializes in cases like Genesis in the US so they made the move.
-End up near a rural town where Genesis would eventually befriend Andrew Hughes around age 9 who grew quite protective of him, preventing any further bullying to the “redhead with the weird accent”.
-Things did get better by high school, his asthma largely going away unless he’s panicking or overworking himself. He found a love for literature, poetry especially, and theater.
-He made his way to Recolle university and there he studied Literature and Theater, but he eventually took on Library Science and got his masters. He wanted to be a librarian before he ended up getting into repairing and, eventually, owning his own bookstore.
-This is also when he started realizing he had feelings for Andrew and while Andrew eventually left to join the army, Genesis never quite stopped liking him. They were off and on for awhile, Genesis in the interim dating others but ultimately, when Andrew came back for good, they got back together again and are together now. He’s waiting to hear in Andy wants to move in with him currently.
-Speaking of homes, Genesis’ home is actually the second floor of his bookstore, The Open Book. He specializes in repairing/restoring books along with selling books. Usually used but he will get new books too, more likely the new/popular ones but if he's got the room, he'll get as many new books as possible. Rotates between the genres too.
-His bookstore is one of those hole in the wall places, but it’s by no means tiny. He also sells/serves tea and brews his own tea and mixtures. He’s popular with the old folk. It's only been around for a few years, but it's got enough regulars and Genesis is up to speed on social media that he's not too worried about business now.
-His parents still live in that rural town, they're good friends with Andrew's mom and many of the small town folk. Genesis loves his parents very much so he does visit them or call them quite often and they helped him get his bookstore business going. They're also very supportive of him (as mentioned above when they helped his get business going) and just want him to be as healthy and happy as he can be. They also adore Andrew and have no issue with their relationship.
AU PERSONALITY: Due to his upbringing, Genesis is a bit more reserved, softer-spoken, and insecure this time around, although his confidence is much better than how it was as a child. It's mostly that he doesn't like that he's weak as his health can take a dive easily, but this also means he's not so prideful that he can't ask for help. He's basically a more tone-downed version of his previous self with a helping of insecurities due to his being bullied and health issues (and no crazy as he doesn't suffer the symptom of degradation. He's refined, eloquent, but a bit snarky and likes to tease those he likes.

His vanity and drama, there really is no one singular example. Part of that anger is that he is prone to jealousy, whether it be from a friend or someone who was better than him (proven or not). Unfortunately, there's no prime examples of these traits aside from nearly every scene he was in was him dramatically floating in from above, gesticulating as though he was on stage, etc. His vanity comes from the Ultimania book advising that he likes to look good and his vanity is one of his defining traits prior to degradation and, arguably, from said above scene chewing as he tends to caress his own face where it's begun to crack and fade to gray. His passion and temper could easily be seen from the flashback scene however it is arguable on how much of that was his own and what was from the degradation already having begun as we found out shortly after that scene. His flare for drama, however, it's more like there's several times although I'm honestly unsure whether this is from the the degradation (where his rage/anger is not inhibited any longer and he lacks the control of his emotions so it's hard to tell which is from the illness or him legit being a drama queen) or not. Unfortunately, a lot of his traits listed are from the supplementary material as a majority of Genesis' scenes in the game are from after he's begun to degrade which arguably started even before receiving the cut on his shoulder in the flashback scene.
That being said, it does lead me to point out how it impacts his friends, namely Sephiroth and Angeal as Crisis Core is told through Zack's POV, which is, again, after he's begun to degrade so he never gets to see Genesis as he really was and what made him great friends with his mentor and Shin-Ra's most famous SOLDIER. What we do get are small snippets. The fact that his best friend, and from childhood, is Angeal is one part. Angeal was poor, Genesis was the rich kid, the mayor's son. However, Angeal respected him enough to not steal from his dad's orchard. He followed him to being a SOLDIER, to wanting to be a hero. Talking about how Genesis doesn't reveal too much of himself was from the fact that he kept to himself in the Banora Mines, of all places. He had a little area to himself, despite it being abandoned and far too dangerous to run around it. But Genesis clearly didn't care, he didn't want to be prim and proper. He wanted to be a hero. It's where his obsession, aside from LOVELESS, comes in. It's what drove him during his degradation. Unfortunately, we don't see what made Sephiroth become friends with him. But it could very well be the same thing as Angeal, that Sephiroth did respect him. Enough that they had a lot of shenanigans in the company training room (throwing swords at each others' heads to get at the dumbapples, I mean what?). Gillian even mentions what a good boy Genesis was before SOLDIER, so there is reason to believe that he was a genuine person who just wanted to be a hero but either his drive, jealousy, or that his degradation started early on without his knowing that led him down the wrong path.
His vulnerability, however, despite what he tries not to show, is easily inferred when you find out that the rebellion was not his idea. He was used by Lazard and Hollander who wanted revenge. Genesis wanted a cure, so he went along with it given he was also justifiably angry at the company as they're the reason he's falling apart to begin with. His drive and passion was all to be a hero, despite his very nefarious actions, and while he got his salvation at the end, it wasn't really through his own means. Not totally and not in the beginning. He also persuaded Angeal, who was always about dreams and honor to join Genesis (for a time) until his death by Zack's hand. There's also the fact that he waits a good number of years before asking Sephiroth for assistance and by then, it's too late. Sephiroth turns his back on him and for good reason, obviously, however I think this shows just how much closer Genesis was to Angeal than Sephiroth. And, honestly, vice versa, as Sephiroth's emotions are usually shown mostly in relation to Angeal, not Genesis (unless they're in a scene together).
As for Genesis having shown growth, it's unfortunate that we don't see more of him once he's been healed, to see the real him, but there are some telling moments. He's nearly fully degraded by the end of the game, he's tired, he's not shouting, he's not angry. He's at his last resort, the Goddess materia, and while his dream is all he has left, it's clear that even he sees the error of his ways when he gets to meet the Goddess and, while she heals him, she also sends him back to the world and, according to the Ultimania, he decides to become a guardian for Gaia and locks himself away until he is needed. He also mentions to "Angeal" (it's Lazard as an Angeal clone) that the "dream" came true. His dream was to share a dumbapple with his two friends, Angeal and Sephiroth (Cloud/Zack by proxy of having S Cells in them). Despite what I said above, he does consider Sephiroth a friend, even if he's closer to his childhood friend first, and wanted to something as simple as sharing an apple together. The other moment we get is the last act that he, himself, creates for the missing act of LOVELESS: "Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return. To become the dew that quenches the land, to become the sand, the seas, the skies. I offer thee this silent sacrifice."
He knows what he's done was wrong, unforgivable really, and sets in motion the OG game. Angeal is dead, Sephiroth has gone insane, Zack Fair is killed as well. So, it leads him to essentially working for the Goddess herself, to atone and help the world he once wanted to destroy ("if the world seeks my destruction, then it goes with me.").
AU History:
Things did get better in high school, mostly in that he wasn't really picked on anymore. He didn't necessarily make new friends, but he had people to talk to and hang out with were Andrew not there. He also was part of the theater club and he'd always loved that and literature. He just wasn't the type to get close to very many people which is why Andrew is pretty important to him aside from just having a relationship with him later in life. There was no real pivotal moment as to why he picked it up. Since he was little, he was always a reader. It was his escape, you could say. And as he got older, his tastes on literature also grew with him, leading to theater and other means of storytelling. His interests in the two mediums really just grew with him, which led him to wanting to become a librarian and studying for it. However, while in college, he did get to work at the college library and while he did enjoy it, it led him to deciding to take a different route, i.e. running a bookstore instead. Getting his degree in library science was purely because he wanted to finish it and also as a fallback in case starting his own business didn't work out.
His reasoning for choosing this wasn't quite so mundane as to why he likes books. While working in the library, he learned how to repair some of the older books and even joined an apprenticeship to get better at it. Soon, that's where his initial business started once it was going around that there's a student who can fix your textbook or what have you. And then, people started just donating their books. He also had far too many books at home (still does) and it was one of his mentors who suggested to try and work out a combination of selling and repairing and along with his parents' help, got it going to what it is now a few years later. He prefers that over freelancing which is what he had been doing previously during school.
AU Personality:
As mentioned before, he's more or less and toned down version of his previous self. That isn't to say he's just that. He doesn't have that drive to "be a hero", he never did aside from knowing he'd never make it in the army if he ever did want to. Sure, he'd like to be the various characters in the books he's read but he knows it's not going to happen. So he quietly put his focus elsewhere, namely in what he does know he can do. Genesis is smart and knows that if he can put his mind into something, he can get what he wants. He's quiet and tempered most of the time, and while having been a theater geek, he's not quite so dramatic or vain. He's both insecure and confident. He knows his capabilities, but sometimes his shortcomings can really bring him down. His hopes/dreams that he's striving for has, mostly, been achieved though given he's running his own bookstore and it's fairly successful.
During his day to day, he keeps to himself. Again, he's toned down and quieter. But he's now a bit more open as he's friends with Zephyr (okayed by the mun of
What he suffered as a child and continues to suffer today in terms of just is body is one of the main reasons why he's a lot slower to build to that confidence and charisma that he had as young as a teenager when he was a SOLDIER. He's a skinny beanpole and not really the definition of "manly" (part of the reason he was bullied as a child). But being in theater helped him start to build that confidence, allowed him to speak in front of others, while not quite being so dramatic or overbearing as he doesn't really like to draw too much attention to himself just yet. Reading allowed him to enter many worlds and gain an open-mindedness that allowed him to move on from not being able to join Andy and put his talents elsewhere. That isn't to say he doesn't like to try and help others though, as when joining in volunteer work like in the TDM. He also accepts donations still books and tends to have free book baskets because he wants more people to read and grow. He also enjoys helping others with his teas (hence why the old folk like him, such a good boy he is) as they seemed to have helped him growing up and, again, he'll engage his customers as his clientele aren't so big that some get lost along the way. Basically, he's still trying to be a "hero" but in a much more subtler way and without really realizing it.
Also, forgot to link the AU workshop for the Noctis and Sephiroth. Just in case.
